Mini brief two

When I got home from the blog review the hairdryer I ordered had arrived. What I am trying to do is to take an item and convert its use to something entirely different. To look at it and identify the objects form, function and topological shape and then transform it. I don't think I could have done this 3 months ago, but now it almost seems simple. By describing it in words and putting its " designed function " aside ie. it is gun like; with a lead; a switch; has a circular gridded aperature and a smaller rectanglar one. I can look at it in a objective manner. If I were a computer I could morph the body and retain the elements, then what would I see? I have an idea!

Mini brief one

RED CABBAGES ARE BIG THIS AUTUMN - I enjoyed working in 3d, probably as I tend to convert everything I see into two dimensions. I also liked letting the material guide me and influence my outcome. So I have picked a raw material that I have never handled before: Red cabbage leaves. I was really surprised when I first pulled at the outer leaves. I want to explore the material. See what it does. Find its strengths? Look at the patterns and colour; Stretch it; dry it; burn it; let it be itself and see where we go. What I want to avoid is trying to make it something it's not, but see if, as I suspect, it holds a few surprises.

teapot

Based on my findings down Brick Lane, I wanted to draw together the observations that some things are not used for what the intended purpose, ie The rug was a bed; the cinema became a cafe etc. and my conclusion that the most genuine drink in Brick Lane was a cup of tea ( The coke came from Poland, the Kingfisher lager from Faversham etc. ) I wanted to work with a material and build something genuine. I wanted to make a teapot out of tea, then there would be no argument to what it was. After a few experiments I had to use teabags. A week later and its nearly dry and I can soon put the two halves together. But for the record here is the Tea pot. Had time allowed I would have liked to make a cup from coffee beans, a bowl of rice etc.

Bigger things beckon.

Noviardi: exhibition Idea

Nice idea Mel, I like your idea of putting a speaker on the clothes from brick lane, so it's like hearing their stories.
I also upload some picture from Javier Mariscal exhibition in Design Museum,
